Ecosystem Learning Journey

The Overview

Genentech is a biotechnology company dedicated to pursuing groundbreaking science to discover and develop medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases. The Genentech Training and Development team was developing a new training program called the “Ecosystem Learning Journey”. They needed a logo/graphic for this program.

The Problem

They did not envision this "Learning Journey" as a straight path from point A to point B. Rather, they envisioned it as a curvy, “road less travelled” kind of path, that has dips and turns and ups and downs. In their eyes, it didn't have a final, definite end, but rather a continuous learning journey as time goes on and they learn new best practices for their customer engagement model.

The icon needed to be something that conveys the Ecosystem Learning Journey concept in a simple way that would work well at very large and very small printed sizes. They also wanted the color palette and typography to be compatible with the Training & Development team branding.

The Solution

Several iterations and options were offered from multiple designers. Grenetech's Training & Development team decided to go in a different direction than the one listed here (for confidentiality's sake, I cannot share the one they chose, which was another one of my options for them.) However, I was extremely happy with this second option. The overlapping lines emulate the original Training & Development's logo, and incorporates their "never ending journey" theme well. Additionally, you can see I was able to include the "e" for "Ecosystem."
